Projections indicate a need of net migration of 400,000 individuals per year just to keep the current population size. Soon, the so called baby-boomer-generation will retire, often being employed in technical and industrial jobs or working as craftsmen. Further, the industrial digitisation and new businesses in the tech industry need IT-specialists. This is why the FDP in the German Bundestag has been pressing for a comprehensive immigration reform which introduces a points-based system like the Canadian Comprehensive Ranking System for a very long time. Accordingly, it was one of our policies of priority in the coalition talks.
In November, the Federal government introduced the key parameters of the new reform. Soon, parliament will debate the ministerial draft bill.
